Today’s Gospel: Luke 10:38-42
(Martha and Mary)

“Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Reflection:

Martha is busy, and Mary is still. It's easy to read today’s gospel and think Jesus is scolding Martha, but He isn't. Jesus says her name twice, and that's tenderness. He sees how tired she is, and He invites her to sit down with Him first and let the work grow out of that. Martha loved Him, and so do we. But love that never sits down gets worn out, while love that has spent time with Him spills over. That's how people end up meeting Jesus through us: not through our arguments, but through our peace. Has anyone ever asked you, “Why are you happy all the time? I always see you smiling.” That’s the greatest opportunity to share our faith. I typically say, “Yes, I am, because I have our Lord, our Lady, and the Rosary in my life.” Honestly, it's Rosary Making that lights the fire of love in my soul, every single day for Jesus and Mary. Everything good begins with prayer and praying the Rosary is the perfect prayer.

Saint Bruno knew this, and so today the Church remembers him. He walked away from a busy world to live in peace with God, and he founded the Carthusians. Their motto: the Cross stands steady while the world turns. You can see him at the Fatima Shrine; there he is in the sunlight, with his bible in his hands and beads wrapped around his fingers. He's in the right place, being here on the grounds. At Fatima, Our Lady asked for prayer, not noise. Bruno's silence wasn't hiding at all. It was a doorway, a doorway for where the Soul found Christ because one man stayed close to Him.

And who sat at Jesus' feet more lovingly than His Mother? She kept everything in her heart. Bruno's sons honored her every day. The Rosary is how we should all sit with her: Beneath the Standard of Mary. We need to slow down, and we need to listen, so we can let ourselves be loved. Then we get up and go, carrying Him to the people He puts in our path. The Cross holds steady, even when our days aren’t. Someone you know has their world spinning right now; bring them to the feet of Christ on your knees.

When did you last sit with Jesus, with no list and no rush?
