Preparing for the Storm

Today’s Gospel: Luke 12:54-59
(Preparing For The Storm)

“He also said to the multitudes, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, `A shower is coming'; and so, it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, `There will be scorching heat'; and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; but why do you not know how to interpret the present time? "And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. I tell you, you will never get out till you have paid the very last copper."

Reflection:

If you lived where floods or wildfires hit, you’d heed the warning. You’d pack the car and go. There wouldn’t be a debate. Jesus says we read the sky well enough, yet we miss the storm that matters most. A spiritual storm is coming; I believe many sense this. The accuser will drag up every sin we’ve ever committed. He is the father of lies, and he wants us to believe God has turned against us. Please always remember he hasn’t; mercy awaits us, all we have to do is ask, and the Lord will pour out His love upon us. But don’t wait for the last hour. Settle things while there’s still a road ahead.

Jesus is ready to change your life through the Holy Spirit today. Don’t tell yourself there’s plenty of time. Time goes by so fast, and sin settles in and makes itself at home. We’d never leave dirty dishes to rot on the counter, because we know what that does to a home. Yet we leave our souls unwashed for months. Yes, we are all sinners. Small or large sins, none of us are exempt from sinning. There is no reason for despair; it’s a reason to get serious and keep your soul as clean as possible. And stay close to Jesus.

So how do you prepare? Read your Bible every day. Get to daily Mass as often as you can, while you can. Sit in Adoration. Pray the rosary, or whatever devotion is yours, and make it your own. Go to confession often. Share Jesus as the Spirit leads. I keep saying these things for one reason. I want them to become second nature to you, so that others catch the fire from you. I am always praying for all of you. It is in my prayer time that I walk beside you, with you, for you, every day, Beneath the Standard of Mary.

What storm are you ignoring right now? What would change if you made peace with God today instead of tomorrow? Who is waiting to hear about Jesus from you?
