Jesus Speaks About His Death
Today's Gospel: Luke
9:43b-45

While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, "Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Reflection:
The crowds were
amazed at all the miracles and the healings, so many wanted to be part of it.
Then Jesus speaks about being handed over, and the disciples go quiet. Jesus
wasn't trying to scare them; He was preparing them. It was so they're ready to
walk through it with him, not alone.
Maybe we're guilty of the same thing the disciples were guilty of, loving the
miracle, loving the blessing, loving Jesus when life is good. But real
discipleship isn't about only the positive; it’s much more than that. The
beautiful part is when we say yes to the whole thing- the joy and the hard times
as well; that's exactly where the deepest glory shows up. Not despite the cross,
but because of it.
Every saint who carried their cross came out the other side shining brighter
than before. So don't be afraid to ask Jesus the hard questions, and don't be
afraid to walk the harder road with Him either. He's not leading you into the
dark to leave you there. He's leading you straight toward the light, and He's
walking every step with you.
What's one thing you've been afraid to ask Jesus, and what if today's the
day you finally ask? You are never alone with Jesus in your life.
