Today's
Readings
1 Peter
5:5b-14 Peter
writes: humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God. Cast all your worries
upon Him because He cares for you. Your opponent, the devil is prowling like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith. The
God of all grace will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Mark
16:15-20 Jesus
said: go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. They went forth and preached
everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the
signs that accompanied it.
Today's
Thread: He works with you, not through you alone.
Mark ends his
Gospel with a beautiful phrase: the Lord worked with them. They went, and he
went with them. This is the pattern of the Great Commission, not solo missions,
but partnership. They moved, He confirmed.
Peter, who knew Mark personally, calling him 'my son',
writes from experience: cast your anxiety on God because He actually cares.
This is not poetry. Peter had sunk in a lake and been caught by a hand. He knew
what it meant to be held.
Living
It Today:
Today the Church
honors the man who gave us the shortest, fastest, most action-driven Gospel.
Mark's word for 'immediately' appears over 40 times. Immediately He healed.
Immediately He called. Immediately they followed. Mark's Jesus moves quickly.
Is your faith moving at Mark's pace today or is it
stalled? The Lord wants to work with you, but that requires you to go first.
Take one step today in the direction He has been calling you. He will confirm
it.
Something
to sit with today:
Peter says the
devil prowls like a roaring lion. But he also says resist him, steadfast in
faith. What is the lion circling in your life right now? What would it look
like to resist today, not in your own strength, but with steadfast faith?
Mark the Evangelist went into Egypt, into Alexandria,
and planted a Church that still exists. He was not an original Twelve. He was a
second-generation disciple who caught fire. What is your version of Alexandria,
the place He is sending you that seems too far?
